Built in 1902 and founded by George O'Neill, this house had many different types of designs and influences, creating a magnificent structure. The many owners ranged from rich families to royalty.

The Palácio dos Condes de Castro Guimarães was originally known as the Torre de São Sebastiao and was built in the 1900 as a summer residence in Cascais, and later became a museum (1931). The museum includes national and international paintings, furniture, pocelain and jewellery. The buildings most prominent feature is the tower.

In 1910, the house was sold to the first count of Castro Guimarães, who lived there with his wife until 1927. Many of the items currently in the museum were obtained in that period. Some of the most important purchases were 16th century manuscripts.
